Job Description

Accounting Manager (CPA Required).

Location: MGRM Pinnacle / Pinnacle Charter Schools – Tempe, AZ (Full-Time, On-site).

About Us:

MGRM Pinnacle operates Pinnacle Charter Schools, a Cognia-accredited network of alternative schools across Arizona. Established in 1995, we’ve supported student success for nearly 30 years through flexible and innovative education models. Our schools serve students who benefit from a personalized and technology-driven approach, including those who are at-risk, over-age, or under-credited. With both online instruction and physical site support, we provide students with the structure and flexibility they need to graduate and thrive.

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a dependable and experienced Certified Public Accountant (CPA) to serve as our in-house Accounting Manager . In this leadership role, you will manage all financial operations across our organization—including budgeting, reporting, payroll coordination, tax compliance, and audit oversight.

While this is a leadership role, you will not be working alone. You’ll collaborate closely with an experienced in-house accountant who supports day-to-day operations, allowing you to focus on higher-level oversight, compliance, and strategic guidance.

This is an ideal opportunity for a CPA who wants to move beyond firm work into a mission-driven organization —offering meaningful impact, ownership of the accounting function, and a collaborative leadership environment.

Please note: CPA certification is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements across multiple entities.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and general ledger balances.
  • Prepare journal entries and monthly closing reports.
  • Conduct variance analysis and report on significant trends or anomalies.
  • Maintain thorough, audit-ready documentation for all financial activities.

Taxation & Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Prepare and submit tax filings in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Stay up to date with tax law changes and apply them proactively.
  • Lead internal and external audits and act as the main liaison with auditors.
  • Ensure ongoing adherence to GAAP and internal accounting policies.

Payroll, AP/AR & Budget Oversight:

  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash disbursements.
  • Coordinate with HR and external payroll processors to ensure accurate payroll submission.
  • Manage budgets in collaboration with leadership, tracking expenses and supporting forecasting.
  • Develop and refine accounting procedures to improve financial clarity and efficiency.

Strategic & Leadership Collaboration:

  • Serve as a financial advisor to school leadership by providing regular reports and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with external consultants and vendors (e.g., legal, accounting, tax advisors).
  • Support long-term financial planning aligned with educational and operational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, including financial reporting, audits, and tax preparation.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and relevant tax laws.
  • Proven experience leading audits and coordinating with external auditors.
  • Experience using QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, analysis).
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Experience working in K–12, nonprofit, or charter school environments is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits:

Salary for this position is competitive and based on prior experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, and life insurance coverage, as well as an employer retirement contribution.

Equal Opportunity Employer:

MGRM Pinnacle Inc. is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, age, disability, religion, sexual orientation, or national or ethnic origin. Candidates from all backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply.
