Job Description

Summary:
Bartenders prepare and serve drinks to members and guest in bars, restaurants and special events. They need to know how to make handcrafted cocktails, pour wine and beer. They must be able to mix drinks pour beer and wine accurately, and without waste. In addition to serving cocktails, beer and wine bartenders charge for food and beverage using the point-of-sales system. They also clean up after members and keep their work area clean. Bartenders check the identification of members and guest when appropriate. Bartenders must be sure members and guest meet the age requirements for the purchase of alcohol. An additional responsibility is to make sure members and guests do not drink too much alcohol. They often form attractive displays out of bottles and glassware. Bartenders wash the glassware and utensils after each use.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following:

Note: Other duties may be assigned. 

  • They are to be in uniform and up to date on menu and club information. 
    • Appearance (proper hygiene standards like men shaving and clear uniforms and shoes).
    • Name tags.
    • Tools.
    • Daily specials including soup of the day.
    • Daily training topic.
    • Reminders of any upcoming special events.
    • Club announcements. 
  • Know the liquors including call brands, house brands and premium brands.
  • Create creative cocktails.
  • Clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment.
  • Take beverage orders from serving staff or directly from patrons.
  • Supervise banquet bartenders.
  • Serve wine, and bottled or draft beer.
  • Clean bars, work areas, and tables.
  • Must be able to train other staff proper mixogly methods. 
  • Serve snacks or food items to members and guest seated at the bar.
  • Slice and pit fruit for garnishing drinks.
  • Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays.
  • Limit problems and liability related to members and guest excessive drinking by taking steps such as persuading the members and guest to stop drinking, or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated patrons.
  • Prepare appetizers, such as pickles, cheese, and cold meats as instructed by head bartender.

  • Country Club Experience is Required. 

 
Education and/or Experience:
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or two year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Bartenders must be aware of state and local laws concerning the sale of alcoholic drinks. In some states bartenders must have a bartender's license or a state health certificate. Bartenders usually must be at least twenty-one years old, but many bars prefer to hire individuals who are twenty-five or older. Bartenders must have a neat and clean appearance and a pleasant, agreeable manner. They often interact socially with the patrons, which works to their advantage as far as tipping is concerned.

Pleasant personality with good communication skills, proper service techniques and the ability to work under pressure. Attention to details and knowledge of P.O.S. 

 

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. 


Reasoning Ability: 

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
