Position Title
Pharmacy Technician I, Non-Sterile Compounding

SUMMARY:
As a Non-Sterile Compounding Pharmacy Technician at ***, you will play a crucial role in our commitment to providing high-quality veterinary medications and ensuring the safety and health of animals. Working in a state-of-the-art compounding facility and under the supervision of the managing pharmacist in charge, you will be responsible for the preparation of non-sterile medications in compliance with pharmacy law, standards of pharmacy practice, and USP compounding standards. Your primary focus will be on compounding various non-sterile medications, including capsules, scoop powder, tablets, oral liquids, transdermal gels, otics, topical medications, and medicated treats. All dosage forms listed include hazard and nonhazardous. Your attention to detail, strong technical skills, and dedication to quality will contribute to the success of our compounding operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, learn and apply company standard operating procedures (SOP) to perform supporting compounding tasks, participate in dosage form training, and obtain in depth knowledge (validation) in the preparation and handling of at least 1 dosage compounding form following established protocols and compounding techniques.
Adhere to all applicable regulations, state law, and federal law. Learn and apply USP standards to prepare, handle, and dispose of materials including hazardous waste.
Follow all requirements for personal hygiene and garbing, including proper hand hygiene and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
Prepare nonsterile compounded preparations in adherence to the master formula record and each individual compounding record.
Use good compounding practices to avoid cross contamination, and to ensure correct potency and quality of each preparation.
Clean and sanitize the compounding area, equipment, and tools in accordance with regulations and standard operating procedures.
Maintain strict documentation and record-keeping of compounded medications, ingredients, lot numbers, and expiration dates.
Monitor and maintain inventory levels of compounding supplies, including chemicals, solutions, and equipment, and place orders as needed.
Participate in training programs, continuing education, and professional development opportunities to stay updated on compounding techniques, regulations, and industry advancements.
Collaborate with pharmacists and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely completion of compounding orders.
Maintain a strong track record of reliability and punctuality.
Cross train in multiple departments, as needed.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Entry level compounding position, 6 months plus experience preferred in pharmacy.
Experience as a compounding Pharmacy Technician, with a focus on non-sterile compounding, preferred but not required.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must hold a current pharmacy technician license or registration through the State Board of Pharmacy in the state where the compounding facility is located. A technician trainee license/registration may be acceptable if allowed by the relevant State Board of Pharmacy.
Must have, or obtain within 6 months of hire, the pharmacy technician national certification (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Completion of continuing education credits to maintain national certification is required.
COMPETENCIES (SKILLS AND ABILITIES)
Able to read and follow SOPs and complete basic mathematical calculations used in the role.
Able to work on routine compounding task assignments and utilize basic compounding skills as required for the position.
Familiarity with veterinary medications, dosages, and compounding requirements is a plus.
Proficiency in using compounding equipment and software systems, including automated compounders and inventory management systems preferred.
Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills to ensure accuracy and efficiency in compounding operations.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of accuracy and potency in all compounding activities while meeting deadlines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment and following all relevant safety protocols.
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to work in an environment with hazardous chemicals, pharmaceutical ingredients, and other chemical and biological hazards. Will be required to wear an N-95 mask, gloves, safety glasses, and other personal protective equipment.
Must be able to stand for majority of scheduled workday and may occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
A person may need to place, turn, pinch, push or pick up small objects as part of their job Also, finger dexterity is required for tasks such as turning pages, typing, writing, pushing buttons, or operating intricate machinery.
Must comply with Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) standards, dress code, and hygiene requirements in accordance with *** SOPs and USP standard guidelines set by USP 795, , and 800. Notable guidelines include no jewelry, no makeup, no beards, no mustaches, no nail polish, no artificial nails, wearing of scrubs (when applicable) and the wearing of closed-toe shoes for entirety of work schedule.
