Job Description

Doors to Freedom is looking for an Education Instructor who has a love for teaching teens needing individualized attention. Our students have gaps in their education, and one-on-one assistance is needed primarily in the areas of Math and ELA. Your work will directly contribute to the empowerment of the girls we support, helping them build brighter futures and become confident in their studies. Compensation: $48,000 per year Responsibilities: • Collaborate with the Education Director to maintain and organize a comprehensive record-keeping system, including grades, inventory, attendance, and permanent records, ensuring that all information is up-to-date and accurate. • Support the Education Director with bi-annual Academic Advisement sessions, working closely with each student to identify academic goals, address any challenges, and ensure ongoing progress. • Assist in the creation or ordering of curriculum as directed by the Education Director, ensuring materials meet the diverse learning needs of our students. • Attend the annual accreditation meeting hosted by the Grace Association of Private Schools to stay informed about educational standards and requirements. • Work with the Education Director to complete Case Notes [PRG03], submitting them to the Program Director weekly to ensure proper documentation of each student’s academic journey. • Assist in the completion of Education Intake processes, including Educational Diagnostic Assessments, Learning Style Assessments, and helping students adjust to our private school expectations, ensuring a smooth transition for each resident. • Provide academic support and mentorship to residents, addressing struggles in their coursework through tutoring, introducing new study habits, and providing problem-solving strategies to ensure academic success. • Maintains sensitivity to residents’ socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.  • A commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion is demonstrated through the use of language and practices that respect and affirm the experiences of all individuals. • Assist with the completion of the Education Section in weekly staff meetings, sharing insights and updates on student progress and academic needs. • Proctor Iowa Standardized Testing in the fall and spring, ensuring that testing procedures are followed and that students are supported during the process. • Complete any other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success and growth of the education department and the organization. Qualifications: Required: • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field, with at least one year of experience in management or supervision of child care personnel, a child care program, or a related field; or Associate’s degree in the same field with two years of experience. • Demonstrated ability to embody the core values of Doors to Freedom—compassion, humility, integrity, loyalty, and diligence—in all interactions. • Flexibility to work weekends and evenings as needed to support the needs of our residents. • Strong classroom management skills, with the ability to manage a diverse group of students on different education plans and learning levels. • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, staff, and families. Note: • If the degree is not in Education or the applicant is not certified, the Education Director may require the applicant to pass the PRAXIS test, Principles of Learning and Teaching for Grades 7-12.
