Full-Time: 40 hours per week

The Optician is responsible for the daily operations of the dispensary, assisting customers/patients aged 2 – 100 in their selection and fitting of frames. He/she is also responsible for making glasses, controlling inventory and equipment, and grinding and dispensing eyeglasses.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist patients with the selection and fitting of frames.
  • Accurately records and tracks all orders in MVE.
  • Accurately cut the lens with minimal waste and assemble the glasses.
  • Fits and adjusts frames. Performs a full range of repairs as needed.
  • Inspects all eyewear before sending to the Dispensary.
  • Maintains an appropriate level of supplies for the Eye Lab and Dispensary.
  • Keeps the Director informed of price changes by suppliers.
  • Assists with annual review of pricing structure.
  • Maintains the Eye lab equipment.
  • Keeps the Dispensary and work areas neat and stocked with a variety of frame designs.
  • Insures timely turnaround of eyeglass orders.
  • Interacts with patients and other staff professionally and respectfully, which reflects the needs and concerns of the individual. 
  • Consistently provides excellent customer service and makes patients feel welcome.
  • Maintains a positive attitude.
  • Effectively communicates with patients/customers regarding wait time and/or delays.
  • Communicates charges for frames and lenses to patients and the registration staff.
  • Report delays in supply orders, safety and equipment problems, and malfunctioning or missing equipment.

  • Reads, understands, and complies with all Standards of Conduct, JCAHO policies, and all laws related to position responsibilities and employment at NeighborHealth.
  • Upholds procedures and systems to safeguard the company.
  • Confidentiality of all patient and employee information. 
  • Upholds safety policies, practices, and procedures, including safety, fire safety, electrical safety, proper body mechanics and material handling, office/ergonomic safety, and other employee safety measures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: 

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Graduation from a Certified Optician program or equivalent experience and a license.
  • There needs to be knowledge and skill in lens grinding, the optical field, and eyeglass dispensing. Bilingual skills preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • At least o ne year of prior relevant work experience.

SKILLS/ABILITIES: 

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both in writing and verbally.
  • Customer service skills. 
  • Familiarity with the use of a personal computer in a Windows environment is preferred.
