Description Job Summary Supports, and is responsible for incorporating into job performance, the Frederick Health (FH) mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy and adheres to the FH Compliance Program, including following all regulatory requirements and the FH Standards of Behavior.
The Pharmacy Technician performs a variety of duties and technical tasks structured to assist the pharmacist, patients, and other healthcare providers. These tasks are designed to support the medication distribution system for hospital patients.
Example Of Essential Functions - Pharmacy Technician is responsible for providing services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Supports the medication dispensing practice through accurate preparation of doses, delivery of medications via computerized tube system or hand delivered as needed, maintenance of Pyxis stock, CII Safe, and processes discharges and transfers.
- Performs stock billing functions.
- Assures that medication stock is in date and not deteriorated through monthly assigned checks. Repackages medications supporting the unit dose systems.
- Assists with monthly cleaning and disinfecting clean room per established procedure.
- Self-directed to work in an efficient and organized complying with hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs all duties of Pharmacy Technician under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Participates in continuous process improvement initiatives.

- *Central Technician
- *IV Room Technician
- Transition of Care Technician (aka “medication history”)
- Frederick Health Medical Group Infusion Pharmacy Technician
- Buyer/Inventory Controller
- Frederick Health Pharmacy technician
- Minimum expectation for all Pharmacy Technician I within 12 months of hire date
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities - Basic computer/keyboard skills (including MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and a good understanding of medical terminology are required.
- Must be able to participate in all aspects of drug distribution, communicate with other hospital employees, and prioritize work based on acuity/need.
Minimum Education, Training, And Experience Required - High School Diploma/GED is required.
- Registered Maryland Board of Pharmacy Technician is required.
- National certification preferred.
- Entry level, new Pharmacy Technician with limited or no experience
- As of transfer from Trivergent in December 2020, requirement of IV room training is not required. However, on a move forward basis all Pharm Tech I’s must have base competency of IV admixture preparation – minimum competency in development.
Patient Contact Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups:
- X Neonate (0 thru 30 days)
- X Infant (31 thru 12 months)
- X Child (13 months thru 12 years)
- X Adolescent (13 years thru 17 years)
- X Adult (18 years thru 65 years)
- X Geriatric (66+ years)
Physical Demands Light Work - Lifting up to 40 pounds on an infrequent basis (less than one lift every three minutes and/or carrying up to 40 pounds, or requiring walking or standing to a significant degree (about six [6] hours a day).
Ergonomic Risk Factors Repetition : Repeating the same motion over and over again places stress on the muscles and tendons. The severity of risk depends on how often the action is repeated, the speed of the movement, the required force and muscles involved.
Working Conditions Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Risk: Category B – MAY have exposure to blood or body fluids.

Pay is based on experience, skills and education. If position is part-time, salary will be pro-rated based on scheduled hours. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on specialty if applicable. Non-Exempt positions may have shift differential and/or Overtime paid, if applicable.
Hourly Range: $19.00 - $27.77
