Job Description

The Safety Coordinator plays a vital role in promoting a safe and compliant work environment across Starr Electric Company projects. This position is responsible for ensuring strict adherence to SEC’s Environmental, Health, and Safety programs, as well as all relevant State and Federal regulations. The Safety Coordinator proactively delivers and identifies safety training, monitors compliance with construction safety standards, and fosters strong professional relationships with clients to uphold SEC’s reputation for safety excellence. Success in this role requires a collaborative team player with outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills, effective attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The Safety Coordinator must be adaptable to changing priorities and adapt accordingly to tight deadlines, consistently demonstrating a positive, professional attitude. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, capable of working independently, and trusted to manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

Duties and Responsibilities – Essential Job Functions

  1. Perform Daily Construction Site and Safety Inspections, i.e., SEC Project Site Safety Inspection.
  2. Document a Weekly Jobsite Safety Audit to be shared with SEC Project Team, Clients, Regional Safety Managers, VP/Regional Managers, Project Executives, and/or General Contractors.
  3. Communication and documentation of the inspections conducted should be provided, including suggestions for necessary corrective measures.
  4. Conduct compliance inspections of assigned field leadership personnel ensuring all safety-related forms/inspections, i.e., SEC Pre-Task Planning, Tic Tester Checks, Toolbox Talks, Equipment Inspections, and High-Risk Permits are being submitted and adhered to daily.
  5. Conduct or assist assigned leadership personnel with incident and/or injury investigations to include near-miss investigations, first aid, vehicle accidents, and property damage.
  6. Ensure assigned project(s) are adequately equipped with safety apparatus, PPE, potable water, latrines, first aid kits, etc. to support the currently assigned workforce.
  7. Enforce and implement SEC safety policies and procedures by assisting Aid the field leadership team with maintaining a safe working environment while ensuring compliance with State, Federal, or Client Specific safety regulations, practices, and standards.
  8. Assisting the supervisors in enforcing the safety policy and environmental health guidelines.
  9. Ensure that training requirements are met for both SEC in-house, or project specific personnel and subcontractors as needed.
  10. Promoting all SEC Safety Campaigns and Initiatives, including the 5x5 Program, Near Miss Reporting, Stretch and Flex, Safety Pledges, Driving Safety Pledges, and the Courage to Care Pledge, etc.
  11. Perform Weekly Site Safety Audits for assigned project(s), as needed, or at the request of the SEC Safety Director, Regional Safety Manager, VP/Regional Managers, Project Executives, and/or General Contractors.
  12. Deliver comprehensive in-house safety training to SEC employees, covering a range of topics such as Quick Hit Training, Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) operation, fall protection, heat stress prevention, ladder safety, and the safe use of power-driven tools.
  13. Record, file, update and distribute training certifications as necessary for all SEC trainees.
  14. Attending all Safety meetings required by SEC, General Contractors, and Owners while representing SEC in a professional manner.
  15. Maintain a central location for all project(s) safety documentation. This includes but is not limited to SEC Site Specific Safety Plan, GC/Client Site Specific Safety Plan, AHAs, Incident/Accident Investigation Reports, Silica Exposure Plan, OSHA logs, Fall Protection/Rescue Plan etc.
  16. Submit a bi-weekly site training matrix to the SEC Project Team, Client, Regional Safety Managers, VP/Regional Managers, Project Executives, and/or General Contractors.
Job Specifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities)
 
  1. An in-depth knowledge of Starr Electric Company Environmental, Health, and Safety Manual.
  2. An in-depth knowledge of all OSHA, ANSI, State, and Federal regulations in accordance with both 29 CFR 1926 and 29 CFR 1910.
  3. A strong working knowledge of the NFPA 70E manual.
  4. Skilled at creating, filing, maintaining, and disposition criteria for personnel and company records.
  5. Proficient in web/database safety and training programs.
  6. Proficient in writing internal and external correspondence.
  7. Proficient in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  8. Ability to focus, organize, and prioritize essential functions of the job to meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to foster and maintain teamwork skills.
  10. Demonstrates proficient and professional communication skills.
  11. Able to adjust and be flexible to sudden demands.
  12. Ability to present to and train both large and small groups on a regular basis.
  13. Ability to travel and work out of town if needed.
  14. Must have own transportation and pass an MVR record check.
 
Education, Experience, and/or Prerequisites Required/Preferred:
 
  1. OSHA 30 – Required
  2. First Aid CPR AED – Required
  3. NFPA70E Qualified - Required
  4. OSHA 510 – Preferred
  5. Bilingual - English and Spanish - Preferred
  6. At least two years of work experience in discharging duties related to safety coordination at a major construction site.
