Job Description

The Senior Accountant assists the VP Controller with month-end financial close, including calculating and posting specific journal entries. They will also help prepare monthly reconciliations, including support for all balance sheet and income statement accounts and document controls. The Senior Accountant will also assist in special projects such as acquisition implementation, the implementation of new GAAP standards, and implementing a new ERP. This role is responsible for keeping abreast of relevant accounting literature, including new GAAP pronouncements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Support the monthly close process by preparing monthly journal entries.

• Help improve the monthly close process through automation and the implementation of new applications

• Assist with preparing monthly reconciliation of balance sheet, income statement accounts, follow-up on items that require investigation, etc.

• Partner with the VP Controller on special projects and acquisitions

• Research new financial reporting pronouncements and determine applicability

• Coordinate with external auditors to provide support and monitor progress

• Assist with the consolidation process

• Assist with the preparation of quarterly and year-end reporting packages, including reserves disclosures

Two office locations, Galleria area and Deer Park. 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

Proficiency in the use and application of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook) and the ability to learn new software or applications.

Additionally:

• Established knowledge of internal control concepts

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related Business degree from an accredited four-year university or college

• 3-5 years of directly related relevant work experience required

• CPA OR CPA Candidate with public accounting experience.
