The core discipline of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry is the understanding of the molecular mechanisms that underline all fundamental biological processes. To that end the faculty of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry represent diverse research interests that include structure and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids, gene organization and regulation, cell signaling, immunology and host pathogen interactions, biochemical genetics, cell and developmental biology, microbiology and virology.
Responsibilities:Under supervision of the PI, the incumbent will serve as a laboratory assistant. Responsibilities include performing research experiments under the supervision of the PI and administrating the lab supplies, safety protocols and equipment. Once properly trained, the lab assistant will also be responsible for training new students on basic lab protocols and skills such as maintaining cell cultures and viral infections. While the ideal candidate will have some background in cell culture, virus work and molecular biology, these are not required and training will be provided.
