The Union of American Physicians and Dentists (AFSCME local 206) is the largest nationwide union of Physicians. With more than 7,000 Attending Physicians, Resident Physicians, Dentists, Advance Registered Nurse Practitioners, Physicians Assistants and more in California, Washington state, New Mexico, Colorado, Washington DC, New York and virtual workers across the country. In Washington State, we represent 6 hospitals and over 100 clinic locations across the state, and we are rapidly growing. Our members are front line healthcare professionals who are forming unions to fight for their patients, their communities and their profession. 

We seek new and experienced Organizers to help bring the missing piece of healthcare workers into the labor movement. At UAPD, you will be part of a team of staff and members who support workers in their fight to form unions in their workplaces. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify, recruit, train, develop and inspire Physician leaders through one-on-one and group communication
  • Build and maintain member organization in the workplace
  • Conduct worksite and home visits to workers
  • Organize and lead productive meetings
  • Develop and implement successful tactics to win union organizing elections against employer opposition
  • Organize community coalition and other political actions to advance our movement
  • Motivate individual workers and groups of workers to take collective public action
  • Help to organize and run large actions such as picket lines, strikes, and marches
  • Engage workers in broader union efforts to bring pressure to bear on the industry
  • Perform administrative tasks necessary for organizing (such as maintaining databases, producing materials, and correspondence)
  • Other responsibilities as directed

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • The ideal candidate will bring previous experience in labor union organizing. Capacity to work independently and with a team.
  • The ability to make and follow through on a work plan
  • Effective and persuasive communications skills
  • Basic writing and computer skills

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work long and irregular hours and participate in all union wide activities
  • Willingness to travel and work in different locations for determined periods of time
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and an automobile.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • This position is full-time position located in Washington state
  • This position is largely computer/office based, with many in-person and Zoom meetings as well as events
  • This position requires traveling to worksites/events and participating in events, marches and demonstrations
  • This position may require hours outside normal business hours, including some nights, weekends and holidays
  • This position requires some travel, mostly in the state of Washington

SALARY & BENEFITS
Competitive salary (80k to 110k) based on experience with a benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, pension plan, 401k, 3 weeks of vacation time, comp time, sick leave, 13 holidays, phone allowance, mileage reimbursement and more.
